Waratahs prepare for long road to WA

The Netball NSW Waratahs will endure a long trip to Perth this weekend when they come up against the home team Western Sting in Round 5 of the 2017 Australian Netball League.

As we head into the second half of the season, the competition has been fierce with the Waratahs posting three wins so far – just one win out of the top four.

Head Coach Briony Akle said while the long trip would prove tough, this weekend will provide a great learning opportunity for her young side…and would hopefully produce some more competition points.

“It has been a bit of an up-and-down start to the season but we have been very lucky so far to be able to mix up our combinations and get the full squad on court,” she said.

“Our younger players are getting valuable experience and our whole team is really proud how they’ve constantly stepping up, and continually learning from our more experienced players every week.

“We are expecting another tough weekend on the road against the Sting, especially this being our third away fixture in a row. The team are adjusting really well, but it’s the longest trip on offer so will be a big test.”

Whilst the Waratahs tackle the task at hand, Akle believes the team has what it takes to get the job done against a strong Sting outfit.

“We have had some great starts to our games but we haven’t been able to capitalize on them,” she said.

“We really need to work on that and also take a look at improving our turnover conversion rate; we are getting plenty of ball back but we haven’t been able to get enough goals. This weekend will really be about capitalising on our possession.

“WA are an exceptional team across the court and we know that we will have to be playing tough consistent netball to come away with the win.”

The Waratahs will return to their home ground in Round 6 where they will host the Tasmanian Magpies on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March > SECURE YOUR SEATS HERE.
