On Saturday evening, 14 November, the NSW netball community welcomed four new members to the Netball NSW Hall of Fame, as well as the elevation to Legend status of the incomparable Anne Sargeant OAM.
Throughout this week NetballNSWTV will be bringing you interviews and highlights from our annual Awards Dinner, starting with inaugural NSW Swifts Vice Captain and long-time NSW representative, Selina Hornibrook (nee Gilsenan).
Selina became the 32nd individual to be inducted into the Netball NSW Hall of Fame, and took to the stage to accept the accolade from President Wendy Archer AM. The former midcourter was humbled by the honour, saying the moment felt surreal.
“It was a shock for the recognition I got earlier in the year with the NSW Hall of Champions, [that tonight] it almost feels surreal because you don’t think of yourself as a ‘Hall of Fame’ type of person. But now to be inducted into [the Netball NSW Hall of Fame] is a great honour,” Selina told Master of Ceremonies Steve Robilliard on stage.
Now a proud mother of three boys, and another boy or girl on the way in the coming weeks, Selina admitted she felt a sense of giving back to her roots after netball has played such a large role in her life.
“As I’ve got older I’ve appreciated more of what netball has given me… I have three boys and potentially another on the way, so I may not be coaching and around netball courts a lot, but I definitely want to stay involved because as I said [netball has] given me so much in my life, that I would love to give back to it.”
