Netball NSW visited Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association in December to conduct a Coaching Development workshop for their Club and Representative Coaches.
Facilitated by Di Brown, Netball NSW’s Coaches Development Coordinator, Baulkham Hills hosted the ‘Dare to Develop a Diamond’ workshop – a Netball Australia initiative to focus on the development of a netball athlete, specifically targeting players 11 to 13 years of age.
Fifty-two coaches participated in the four-hour workshop, which included both theory and practical sessions at Rouse Hill Anglican College. Participants began the morning working through the workshop manual, before moving to the courts to participate in a training session with the Baulkham Hills’ 12 Years Representative Squad.
The training session contained a range of fundamental sports skills including throwing, catching, jumping, running and basic game formats that encourage fun, skill development and decision making. The ultimate goal is for coaches to discover how to test an individual, assess their skill level compared to their age group, and then how to develop that individual athlete.
For information regarding the ‘Dare to Develop a Diamond’ workshops, contact Di Brown at the Netball NSW office on (02) 9951 5000 or [email protected].
The office of Netball NSW and the NSW Swifts will re-open on Monday 7 January 2013. We wish everyone a safe, happy and healthy festive break.
