Three NSW coaches have been selected to develop their coaching skills as part of Netball Australia’s Targeted Coach Program.
Megan Anderson, Amber Cross and Mo’onia Gerrard have been announced in a group of 11 up-and-coming coaches to attend the program that will be hosted out of Netball Australia’s new Centre of Excellence in Canberra throughout the year.
The Targeted Coach Program provides development opportunities for identified coaches within national programs and national camps, and aims to provide them with continued development and learning under the guidance of experienced national coaches.
NSW Swifts’ Assistant Coach Anderson has been appointed Netball Centre of Excellent Specialist Shooting Coach, a month after achieving her Advanced Coaching Accreditation.
Former Swifts’ Co-Captain and Australian Diamond Gerrard will pass on her elite playing experience to eager young netballers as Specialist Defensive Coach for the Australian 19/U Team, while Cross – who was appointed to her first NSW State Team in 2014 as 17/U Assistant Coach – has been allocated to the Australian 17/U Development Squad.
Netball Australia Head of High Performance Carol Byers said it was fantastic to give coaches the same development opportunities as players at the new Centre of Excellence.
“The 17/U and 19/U National Program coaches will be involved in their respective age groups’ national camps next month,” Byers said.
“The specialist coaches will work with their appointed counterparts and assist with these specialist sessions.”
“We’re delighted with the quality of coaches in this year’s intake and believe that their coaching skills will flourish by being involved with the program,” Byers said.
“In addition, the athletes involved in the Centre of Excellence will benefit from being surrounded by such coaching expertise during their visits.”
