Join Netball NSW at SportsFest

Netball NSW will be bringing two of our latest competition offerings to the Hunter region as part of the SportsFest events happening in Newcastle and the Central Coast.

We will be hosting Walking Netball Come & Try clinics at both events in Bateau Bay and Newcastle, as well as an information booth for Fast5 Netball.

If you’re in the area and interested to know more, why not come along and say hello! Plus, if you bring your runners (or come dressed prepared) you can even try your hand at Walking Netball.

See below for more information on both SportsFest events, plus exactly what Walking Netball and Fast5 is all about…

What is Walking Netball?

Netball NSW and the NSW Department of Family and Community Services have entered into a partnership to develop a program that modifies Netball to remove barriers to participation for older people to experience health and social benefits of the sport.

The modified Netball program will be a slower version of the game; Netball, but at a walking pace. The program will be designed so that anyone can play it regardless of age or fitness level with fun, laughter and camaraderie the focus.

RULE CHANGES:

  1. A player must never have both feet off the ground at once (ie jumping).
  2. When a player receives the ball, they can take 1-2 steps while in possession before they must pass or shoot.
  3. A player may keep possession of the ball for up to 5 seconds before they must pass or shoot
  4. When defending, a player must be 4 feet (1.22 metres) away from the opposition player.
