Third Consecutive Titles Eludes NSW 19/U Team

A fairytale third consecutive National Netball Championship has eluded the NSW 19/U Team, defeated by Queensland by three goals, 27-24 at ETSA Park, Adelaide.Trailing at every quarter, NSW was no match for the Queenslanders, a team they beat by 15 goals during the rounds.Queensland stormed out of the blocks in the first quarter dominating across the court, particularly in defence as they took a five-goal lead into the first break, 9-4.

Looking to narrow the gap early, NSW scored three consecutive goals to open the second quarter but any attacking raid they tried to mount was snuffed out by QLD as they held onto the five goal advantage at half-time, 15-10.

Scoring was tough in the third quarter, with NSW unable to bridge the gap and needing a herculean effort in the final quarter, trailing 21-15.

Rallying in the final quarter, NSW drew to within a whisker, but QLD stood up to the pressure, denying NSW a third consecutive title and claiming their first in nine years, 27-24.
