This weekend the 2016 State Championships – Masters will be held at the home of Netball NSW – Netball Central at Sydney Olympic Park – on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 May.

Traditionally held over the June long weekend each year as part of the Netball NSW State Championships, this year the State Championships Masters Divisions have been moved to a stand-alone weekend for the first time.

The Masters will be played in Netball Central’s state-of-the-art facilities, with the winning teams in each age division – Over 35s and Over 40s – being crowned at the end of the two-day tournament. Both winners and runners up will be awarded a trophy and patches at a Presentation Ceremony.

This year there will be 15 teams taking part from the following 12 Associations: Baulkham Hills, Hastings Valley, Hills District, Macleay, Manly Warringah, Port Stephens, Wollondilly, Bankstown, Blue Mountains, Gosford, Penrith and Wyong.

‘’Since opening its doors in December 2014, Netball Central has played host to some of the best netball talent on display – from Netball NSW Schools Cup to the Australian Diamonds; and now we welcome athletes from all over the state who will be participating in the Over 35 and Over 40 age-groups for State Championships – Masters,’’ Carolyn Campbell, CEO of Netball NSW, said.

‘’The decision to make the State Championships – Masters a standalone competition was approved by Council at the AGM in November, 2015, which has resulted in athletes being able to play out the tournament in world-class facilities.

‘’Whether you are participating in the State Championships – Masters for the first time, or don’t wish to name just how many times you’ve been involved, I have no doubt you will enjoy the atmosphere, the passion and the sportsman-ship on display.’’

Games start at 8.30am on Saturday morning and admission to Netball Central for the event is free.
