What is Mel Tallent’s favourite netball moment of 2012?
“This year I was lucky enough to be part of the Sutherland Shire team who were crowned the DOOLEYS State League Waratah Cup Champions; which was also Sutherland’s first title in 13 years.
Even though our opponents Eastwood Ryde were undefeated for the season up until the Grand Final, we knew if we played the best netball we could we would be in with a good chance. After starting well, Eastwood put on 18 goals in the second quarter to take the lead; our coach Maria Lynch just reminded us we were still in it – we just had to play our own game and leave everything on the court.
The crowd was a huge factor that day – they were so loud that we could barely hear each other out on court! Once that final whistle went I was just so relieved and excited, it is one of my favourite memories from this year.”
