The NSW Swifts have unveiled its Leadership Group for the 2014 ANZ Championship season, which will be led by midcourter and current Australian Diamond Kimberlee Green.
Green, 27, who has played for the Swifts since making her National League debut in 2004, will be the Club’s Captain in 2014 and supported by a leadership team of three that includes shooters Carla Dziwoki, Susan Pratley plus defender Sharni Layton.
The decision to appoint Kimberlee Green as Captain was a simple one for new NSW Swifts’ Head Coach Rob Wright.
“Kim is such a standout leader and that has been shown with her recent recognition as Vice-Captain of the Australian Diamonds in their series win against the Malawi Queens,” said Wright.
“Kim is also quintessentially ‘Swifts’ and embodies what it means to be a NSW Swift. Having played her entire professional career with the Swifts, Kim understands the responsibilities that come with representing this Club and our supporters.
“Not only is she a role model but is highly respected by her peers for her leadership, netball ability and professionalism – making Kim the perfect candidate to represent the Club and take our exciting roster forward,” Wright explained.
Previously the NSW Swifts have had a Captain or Co-Captain and Vice-Captain structure but the adoption of a Leadership Group was done to reflect the evolving nature of the sport.
Wright, who was appointed the Club’s Head Coach after four years as Assistant Coach, said that all members of the 2014 Leadership Group were chosen based upon the core values of the NSW Swifts and their ability to influence the change room.
“We are very fortunate to have several players in the current roster with leadership experience, which will be invaluable during our new campaign.
“During our pre-season induction camp, the playing group developed the concept of what leadership should be and identified the need to have leaders across the entire court, so this new structure will support this ethos.
“Kim, Susan, Carla and Sharni all have their own unique leadership skills, but together they complement each other extremely well. Not only will they drive our current roster forward but pass their knowledge onto our emerging leaders, in turn creating their own legacy,” concluded Wright.
Green has been a long-time member of the Swifts’ Leadership Group, having been Co-Vice-Captain in both 2010 and 2011, and over the past two seasons (2012 and 2013) she shared the captaincy duties with Mo’onia Gerrard.
“I’m extremely proud to be leading the NSW Swifts again,” Green said.
“Although leadership is a responsibility we all share, captaining the Club I represent with such pride remains a great honour and a career highlight.
“With new faces and philosophies in both our coaching team and roster in 2014, it’s a very exciting time for all associated with the NSW Swifts.
“I’m also looking forward to supporting and working alongside Rob [Wright] in his role as Head Coach. He is a coach I have the highest regard for and along with the newly assembled coaching team, I’m eager to see what we can collectively achieve,” concluded Green.
2014 is shaping up to be an exciting season for fans of the NSW Swifts following an off-season of change, which included a new look coaching team plus six fresh faces in the playing roster. Over the past few months, seven of the 2014 roster represented Australia in either the Australian Diamonds or Fast5 flyers, and the Club recently announced it had broken its all-time Club Membership Record.
While Platinum Memberships are now exhausted, there are still Silver Memberships available for the 2014 season, with a limited number of Gold upgrades available to those who hurry.
