Kim to lead Green & Gold against England

Netball Australia today announced Kimberlee Green has been appointed acting-Captain for the remainder of the 2014 International Netball Series, after Laura Geitz withdrew from the final two Tests with injury.

The NSW junior will lead the Australian Diamonds against the England Netball Team in Bendigo and Canberra, with the first Test this Sunday 19 October at Bendigo Stadium.

Diamonds Head Coach Lisa Alexander said while Green takes up the challenge of leading the Australians on court, she won’t be alone in the responsibility.

“Kim [Green] understands the leadership model that we’ve implemented in the Diamonds, which is to create an environment where all players contribute to leadership to reinforce the high performance behaviours that we’ve set in our ambition to be the world’s best team,” Alexander said.

“Kim has her sights firmly set on that goal and she helps to drive that in the team.”

The 28-year-old was initially appointed as acting-Vice-Captain for the 2014 Constellation Cup series against New Zealand, following the international retirement of Bianca Chatfield after the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Green said she was honoured to lead Australia for the final two Tests of the season.

“It’s a shame that the role has come in these circumstances; Laura’s absence leaves big captaincy shoes to fill, but I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to lead Australia in an acting capacity for the series against England,” Green said.

“We’ve done a lot of leadership training as a playing group over the last couple years so I know that I’ll be well supported by 11 other leads on court as we look to maintain our momentum from the Constellation Cup series.”

The appointment will see Green lead her country against 2015 Swifts teammate Jade Clarke, who is also caretaking the English Captaincy following an Achilles injury to Pamela Cookey prior to the Commonwealth Games.

The two sides will take the court in front of a sold-out Bendigo Stadium this weekend, followed by the second and final Test at Canberra’s AIS Arena on Wednesday 22 October. Tickets are still available for this blockbuster international showdown; head to Ticketek to secure your seat today!
