Defending champions Orange A and Parkes have won their respective Grand Finals to be crowned the 2013 GrainCorp Regional State League – West/Central West Division One and Division Two Champions.

Played at Orange PCYC on Sunday 1 September, both Grand Finals went down to the wire before a late surge from the eventual winners would see them run away to victory.

With no second chances on offer, a Semi Final win would be the only way the sides could contest in the title decider.  After a strong start from Dubbo A, Orange A slowly but surely built upon their early lead to eventually post a 21 goal victory in the first Semi Final.  It was a closer contest in the second Semi Final; Bathurst A drew upon all their experience to hold out a fast-finishing Orange B, winning by eight goals and booking their spot in the Division One showdown.

It was a closely contested Grand Final with Orange A and Bathurst A finishing on equal footing at the first break.  It was goal for goal with some accurate shooting from the two sides, however some neat defence from Orange A saw the defending champs hold a two goal lead at half time.

Orange A came out firing in the “premiership” quarter, limiting the free movement of the Bathurst shooting circle to pull out to a nine goal advantage.  The lead was set as Orange continued to build for the rest of the second half to win their 18th consecutive title.

In Division Two Parkes stamped their intentions early in the Finals with a dominant 29 goal victory over Dubbo B in the Semi Final, while Bathurst B put on an early six goal advantage on the scoreboard to defeat Forbes by nine to secure their place in the decider.

Parkes came out firing in the Division Two Grand Final, opening up an early advantage over Bathurst B to lead seven goals.  The Bathurst defenders were given a challenge with a tall shooting combination in the Parkes attacking circle, with the eventual champions feeding the ball patiently into their tall targets.

In the end the height advantage proved the difference with Parkes pulling away to post a 20 goal victory and take home the Division Two title.

With West/Central West wrapping up their tournament on the weekend, all seven Regional State League Division One winners have been announced to contest the inaugural GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League competition.
