Hastings Valley on top in North Coast

Hastings Valley Opens have been crowned 2015 North Coast Regional State League Division 1 Champions after defeating hosts Taree Opens 43-39 in the Grand Final on Sunday 17 May.

The day of Finals opened with Hastings Valley Opens taking on Hastings Valley 35s in a first v fourth Semi Final. The Opens team took honours to advance the decider.

In the second Semi Final, a stellar third quarter from Taree Opens allowed them to get past Woolgoolga Opens and win their place in the Grand Final.

The Grand Final was played with high intensity, Hastings Valley leading by five goals at the first break, 16-11.

Hastings Valley stretched their advantage by one in the second quarter to lead 26-20 at halftime before Taree came out stronger in the third quarter, closing the gap to just two goals at the final break, 34-32.

But Hastings Valley were able to seize control once again to take victory, and with it the title, by four goals.

Woolgoolga Opens finished third after Hastings Valley 35s forfeited the playoff for third place; Hastings Valley 35s finishing fourth.

Hastings Valley Opens will now be given the opportunity to compete for the title of 2015 Netball NSW Regional State League Champion should they participate in the 2015 GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League competition.

The 2015 GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League will pit Division 1 Champions (or representatives) from each region to contest a round-robin style tournament before playing out a Finals Series to determine the 2015 Inter-Regional Champion.

The competition will be contested at Netball NSW’s brand new $35 million centre of excellence, Netball Central, from Saturday 26 to Sunday 27 September.
