Inter-Regional State League – Day 1

Newcastle remain undefeated following the competition of Day 1 of the 2014 Netball NSW GrainCorp Inter-Regional State League Finals played at the Anne Clark Centre on Saturday.

The second instalment of the annual tournament sees Division One winners from the Hunter, West/Central West, Far North Coast, Northern Inland and North Coast State League competitions come together to crown the ultimate Regional State League Champion. In addition to the five competing sides, South West Sydney Academy of Sport (SWAS) was invited by Netball NSW to attend Day One of competition, with Hunter Academy of Sport in attendance on Day Two to provide teams with additional experience against quality opposition.

In a hotly contested Day 1, Newcastle will enter Day 2 atop the Ladder, just ahead of Orange in second place. The two sides played out a close first round encounter, with the Hunter State League Champions coming away 3-goal victors. Tamworth and Grafton are equal on points in 3rd and 4th place respectively, and along with North Coast representatives, Hastings Valley, will be looking to secure a berth in Sunday’s Top 4 playoffs.
