Illawarra District Netball Association will be at the centre of NSW netball this weekend with the 2017 Social Masters taking place on Saturday and Sunday, 28-29 October.
One of the most enjoyable weekends of the netball calendar, the Social Masters is all about getting together with friends for some fun, good times and some netty on the courts.
This year 29 teams from all over NSW – some coming from as far away as Parkes – will be taking part with the social function on Saturday night set to be the highlight yet again.
Teams will be competing in two categories in 2017 – Over 35s and Over 40s – with the Over 35s also competing in a Competitive Division.
And after the sun came out on the Central Coast last year, Netball NSW is hoping for more of the same in the Illawarra.
Teams like the Caliba Sports, Hills Belles, Over the Hills and the St George Dragonettes took out titles last year and there won’t be any shortage of sides trying to claim those honours in 2017.
Claire Dale, Competitions Manager at Netball NSW, said the Social Masters held a special place in the organisation’s heart.
“This is our eighth year running the event and it shows just how much of a place netball has in the hearts of those who play in NSW,” Dale said.
“Netball NSW is continually introducing initiatives to keep people involved in the sport for life and the Social Masters is one of those.
“While some will be going to the Illawarra to win in the Competitive Divisions, others will be coming to enjoy the social aspects of netball – on and off the court – which is fantastic too.
“Community and a love of the game are two of the key things we stress the importance of to our Members and the Social Masters brings them out in force.
“I would like to wish everyone competing the very best of luck for the weekend ahead and thank in advance the wonderful volunteers, officials, staff and supporters who will make our time in the Illawarra a weekend to remember.”
