Netball NSW announce 2016 NSW 21/U Team

Netball NSW has confirmed the twelve players who will represent NSW at the 2016 21/U National Netball Championships to be held in Tasmania during March.

In addition to these players, a further six athletes have been selected as training partners.

While the 2016 Team has a new look about it, with just four players returning from the NSW outfit that finished fourth at the 2015 Nationals, this year’s group has no less than seven athletes who were selected in Australian squads during 2015.

Kaitlyn Bryce, Madeline Hay and Maddy Turner (2015 Australian 21/U squad); Kiera Austin, Toni Anderson and Claire O’Brien (2015 Australian 19/U squad) and 2016 NSW Swifts’ Rookie and 2015 Australian 17/U squad member, Lauren Moore.

High Performance coach Maria Lynch will spearhead this youthful but highly talented team at this year’s Nationals. Lynch has helped lead NSW to claim the Champions crown on eight occasions, including three consecutive 21/U National titles from 2010-2012. She will be ably supported by Pate Cooper who was previously the Assistant Coach of the NSW 17/U Development Squad (2014-2015), with Deborah Kassing the Team Manager.

On making the NSW 21/U Team announcement, Netball NSW General Manager – High Performance Anna Longman said this year’s team to contest the 2016 Nationals is an exciting blend of youth and experience.

“A lot of deliberate work has gone into restructuring the NSW talent pathway over recent years and we are delighted with the calibre of players coming through this system,” said Longman.

“While this year’s 21 and under team has a youthful feel to it, there are a high number of nationally identified athletes within this group who we are confident are ready to be exposed to a higher level of competition.

“For Netball NSW, it’s important we provide opportunities for our elite emerging talent to be continually tested and we look forward to seeing their progress when they represent the Waratah with great pride at what is always a hotly contested tournament,” concluded Longman.

The 2016 21/U National Netball Championships will be contested from Tuesday 8 to Sunday 13 March at The Silverdome in Launceston, Tasmania.  It will be the first time since 2012 that the national titles have been played on the Apple Isle.
