Bryce to lead NSW at 21/U Nationals

Netball NSW is pleased to announce Kaitlyn Bryce will lead NSW at the 2015 21/U National Netball Championships to be contested on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in March.

The 19-year-old midcourter will be assisted by 2014 NSW Swift Maddie Hay as Vice-Captain during the six-day tournament, featuring some of the best and brightest netball talent from around Australia.

Despite her relatively young age, Bryce has already accumulated a long list of appearances playing for her State.  She was Captain and Tournament MVP when she led the NSW 17/U Team to be crowned the 2012 National Champions, with the team finishing the tournament undefeated; has run out for the Netball NSW Waratahs during the 2012 and 2014 Australian Netball League (ANL) seasons, and; was based at the Australian Institute of Sport in 2013.

Bryce was also the recipient for the Nance Kenny OAM Medal in 2014 as DOOLEYS State League Player of the Year after she assisted St George Netball Association to their maiden Waratah Cup Grand Final win in 2014.

With a number of natural leaders in the 21/U State Team, Head Coach Megan Simpson said the team had full confidence in their chosen leadership pair.

“We took a holistic approach to our leadership appointment, with the athletes voting on who they’d like to lead them at Nationals,” Simpson said.

“Kaitlyn is the embodiment of a NSW athlete – she’s dedicated, passionate and a team player, and has the attributes that we as staff really want to see in our players; work ethic, positivity and encouraging of her teammates.

“Maddie also brings a wealth of experience to the team.  She’s a successful product of our player pathway, has experience playing at the highest level, and is another fine example of a NSW netballer.

“Between both Kaitlyn and Maddie we’ve got a lot of confidence in our leadership team, as well as the wider group to contest strongly during Nationals.”

Simpson remarked on the team’s progress, saying she was especially pleased with the development of relationships both on and off the court.

“The girls have been training really hard over the past couple of weeks and we’re seeing the benefits of that hard work. We still have a lot of work to do before the 10th of March, but I’m really pleased with how they’re coming together.  They’re a close group and as a coach it’s great to see that close bonding occur both on and off the court,” Simpson concluded.

The NSW 21/U Team have been deep in preparations for the 2015 21/U National Netball Championships, which will be contested from Tuesday 10 to Sunday 15 March at Caloundra Indoor Stadium.
