After having a bye during last round, the Netball NSW Waratahs are ready and raring to go for Week 4 of the 2014 Australian Netball League (ANL) in Brisbane this weekend.
Starting with a match against hosts Queensland Fusion on Friday 25 July, the NSW outfit will also meet Territory Storm and Western Sting across three days of back-to-back action.
The NNSW Waratahs remain undefeated in 2014 after claiming two wins at home against the Tassie Spirit and Canberra Darters, however Head Coach Anita Keelan predicts a challenging weekend ahead for the 2013 Runners-Up.
“This weekend is going to be a huge step in our 2014 campaign – it’s our first weekend on the road, and we are coming up against some quality opposition who boast plenty of ANZ Championship talent,” Keelan said.
The Sting have seven past or present ANZ Championship netballers, including 2014 West Coast Fever teammates Kate Beveridge, Courtney Bruce, Ingrid Colyer (replacement player), Kaylia Stanton, and NSW junior Ashleigh Brazill.
Five ANZ Championship-experienced players will also run out for the Fusion, including 2014 Grand Final teammates Demelza Fellowes (formerly McCloud) and Ameliaranne Wells, as well as 2014 NSW Swift Gretel Tippett, while 2015 Adelaide Thunderbirds recruit and NSW junior Nicola Gray will be flying the flag for the Storm.
While their opposition is stacked with experience, Keelan believes her NNSW Waratahs have the mettle to take it to the very best.
“We have a really strong unit and have been working hard during the break. I was really pleased with how we played during our opening weekend [at the Anne Clark Centre], now we just have to step it up,” Keelan said.
“This is why we play ANL – to test ourselves against the best. We’re representing the Waratah, so will be giving it everything when we take the court,” Keelan concluded.
The NNSW Waratahs will play three of the five fixtures at Somerset Sports Centre at Brisbane’s Ormiston College this weekend, while one other Week 4 match, between the Tassie Spirit and Victorian Flames, will be played at Aurora Stadium in Hobart on Sunday.
