The Netball NSW (NNSW) Waratahs are preparing for what could be their final appearance of the 2015 Australian Netball League (ANL) when they host the Canberra Darters at Netball Central this Saturday 11 July; first centre pass at 3:00pm.
After suffering defeats to Victorian Fury, Southern Force, QLD Fusion and Western Sting, the NNSW Waratahs sit outside the top four and are relying on the misfortunes of others in order to feature in the 2015 Finals Series.
Considering their situation, Head Coach Anita Keelan says it’s serendipitous that the NNSW Waratahs will play at home in what is most likely their final match of the season; giving NSW fans their one and only chance to cheer on their team.
“We’re really hoping to get a big crowd out here [at Netball Central] on Saturday – it will be great for the girls to put it all together and have a really positive showing against the Darters,” Keelan said.
“It will be a really good match-up so we want a big crowd to get out there and support the [NNSW] Waratahs.”
NSW are coming off a mixed bag of results from their Week 3 away trip to Perth; falling first to hosts Western Sting by 10 goals, before putting on a dominant display against the Territory Storm to finish 32-goal victors.
Keelan admits while coming away with opposing results, her NNSW Waratahs certainly have built week-to-week as they prepare for their first appearance at home this season.
“After last week in Perth I really thought our girls were starting to find some form, which has been great, [especially] with Steph [Wood] and Taylah [Davies] coming into the team,” Keelan said of her 2015 NSW Swifts duo.
“Having a look – regardless of the score – with the NT game, we actually started to find some connections and a little bit of rhythm, so I’m hoping we’ll build on that and finish on a high note on Saturday.
“I just felt like there was a good vibe about the team on Tuesday night [at training]… so we’re really looking to finish on high,” Keelan concluded.
