Day 1 wraps at 2013 State Championships

The first day’s play of the 2013 Netball NSW State Championships has wrapped at both Baulkham Hills Shire Netball Association and Parramatta Auburn Netball Association.

More than 1,300 players hit the courts for the first day of action following this morning’s Parade of Districts, which saw Macleay Netball Association (Baulkham Hills) and Hastings Valley Netball Association (Parramatta Auburn) crowned the 2013 winners.

OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Manly-Warringah and Randwick sit atop the ladder, separated by goal difference, after both finishing the first day’s play undefeated.  They’re followed closely by Gosford in third position while Illawarra, Orange and Scone all have five wins each.

OPEN DIVISION TWO
Little separates the top two of the Open Division Two competition, with Sapphire Coast and Hastings Valley sharing top honours.  Competition is tight with the next three teams – Glen Innes, Charlestown and Nambucca Valley – all on 10 points.

19U CHAMPIONSHIP
Four points separate the top five teams of the 19U competition, with Charlestown sitting top on goal percentage, setting up an exciting day two of netball.  Charlestown take on 2013 tournament invitational side Canberra to kick off day two tomorrow.

17U CHAMPIONSHIP
Three teams sit on equal points at the top of the 17U Championship ladder.  Manly-Warringah, Sutherland Shire and Baulkham Hills all remain undefeated after first day of competition, while Ku-ring-gai, Newcastle and Hawkesbury City are nipping at their heels having each dropped just one game.

17U DIVISION TWO
Three competition points separates the top seven teams in 17U Division Two, with Blue Mountains, Taree District and Ballina all finishing with seven wins and one loss after the first day’s play.  With two more days of competition, netball fans are sure to see some hotly contested games at Baulkham Hills.

17U DIVISION THREE
Maitland sit atop the ladder two points clear of Hastings Valley, who hold second place on goal difference from Sapphire Coast.  Westlakes, Brunswick Byron and Forbes round up the top six, which only has three points difference setting up an exciting day two.

MASTERS (Over 35, Over 40, Over 45)
Baulkham Hills 35s and Manly-Warringah 40s share top honours after remaining undefeated thus far in the Masters division being played at Parramatta Auburn Netball Association.  They are closely followed by Gosford 35s and Hills Districts 40s in third and fourth.
