On Thursday 7 March, , NSW Swifts co-captain Mo’onia Gerrard rubbed shoulders with some inspirational females at the 2013 NSW Women of the Year awards.
As part of International Women’s Day 2013 celebrations, this awards ceremony was held at Parliament House with many special guests in attendance. Government dignitaries including State Premier Barry O’Farrell, and Minister for Women Pru Goward mingled with journalists, comedians, sports stars and charity volunteers at this memorable event
A strong advocate for empowering young women, Gerrard says it was a fantastic morning celebrating female leaders in the community.
“I had a really great morning at the awards ceremony, being introduced to so many inspiring women from all corners of the community,” Gerrard said.
“The women who received awards were so humble and down to earth. They aren’t doing these things for the recognition, but to empower young women and provide them with a bright future.”
“It’s really encouraging to know that young girls have so many strong women to look up to.”
