Many Associations will already be preparing to make the long trip to the Sydney Metropolitan area from their regional bases to contest in three days of back-to-back netball.

Hastings Valley Netball Association is one of 56 regional Associations making the trip by bus, fielding four teams in this year’s competition: Opens Division Two, 17U Division Three, Over 35 and Over 40.

Hastings Valley President Narelle Stokes says the Association is very proud of the teams that will be participating in this year’s tournament.

“This is the third year we have been able to field four teams in the State Championships, which is a fantastic effort and we are very proud of the girls who will be representing Hastings Valley,” Stokes said.

“We have our youngest Opens team ever attending the tournament, with many players making the transition from State Age and others returning to netball having played with us in junior rep teams.”

“We also have two debut representative coaches this year, Jackie Thorogood and Michelle Marino, who will be at the helm of the Opens and Over 35 teams.  It’s wonderful to see people put their hand up, and especially Jackie who has made the transition to coaching after playing for many years.”

“I’d also like to thank local businesses who have supported the Association in sending these teams to State Championships. Good luck to everyone participating in the weekend, and go Hastings Valley!” Stokes concluded.

Hastings Valley is the current holders of the Pat Weston OAM Country Championship Cup, a trophy introduced in 2009 which is awarded to the highest placed regional Association in the Open Championship division.

“It’s a fantastic honour to receive the Pat Weston Trophy; it’s one of the highest trophies a regional Association aspires towards as it recognises the hard work and commitment made by regional netball communities,” Stokes said.

With their Opens side to contest Division Two, Hastings Valley will be unable to claim the title for consecutive years.  This year’s race to the Pat Weston OAM Trophy will be run by eight regional Associations … all will be revealed come Monday afternoon!

For the first time, long-time netball supporter Winston Hills Mall in Sydney’s North West will join Netball NSW as Major Event Partner of the 2013 State Championships.

The State Championships would not be possible without the tireless work of volunteers, whether they are working directly on the event or connected with participating teams and Associations. This is why Winston Hills Mall will focus part of their partnership to thank and acknowledge the contribution of volunteers within the Sport.
