Kids have a ball during School Holidays

School is back for another term after students (and teachers!) enjoyed two weeks of holidays during the Easter break.

Netball NSW was on hand to offer a fun, active and healthy option for primary school kids, with ten School Holiday Clinics held across the State; from Gilgandra to Brunswick, Tamworth to St George, and many places in between!

Over 300 children aged 5 to 12 years old participated in the three hour-long clinics, where they were taken through different netball skills by Netball NSW staff including passing, shooting and defending.

Penrith boasted the highest number of children who attended a single clinic, with 85 students having fun in the sun at Jamison Park during the first week of holidays.

It was also the first time that Northern Inland primary school students were able to sign up to a local clinic, with Gunnedah and Tamworth hosting the inaugural Netball NSW School Holiday clinics in the region.

Those who attended the St George clinic on Wednesday 24 April were given a special treat, with NSW Swifts and Australian Diamonds’ defender April Letton surprising the 43 participants by helping out on the day. The St George player was on hand to take the children through different skills stations – whilst also finding time to sign autographs and have photos with the participants – check out the photo album on facebook.

April said it was fantastic to be able to visit Rockdale and have some fun with the participants on the netball court.

“It was awesome to surprise the kids and teach them a few things; we were blessed with a really nice, sunny day and we all had a lot of fun,” said April.

“It wasn’t so long ago that I was playing Saturday netball and looking up to the Swifts and Diamonds players, so I feel so lucky to be in the position I am and give back to those young kids.  I was especially proud to see some local Heathcote Waratah players, which is who I played for when I was growing up.”

“Some of the kids hadn’t played netball before, so it was exciting to be able to teach them a few things.  Hopefully they enjoyed themselves and we see them sign up to play for their local club,” April concluded.

Netball NSW will be holding more School Holiday Clinics during July, with 12 clinics scheduled across the State.  Stay tuned to netballnsw.com in the coming weeks to register at your local clinic and have some fun with netball during your school holidays!
