Mkoloma makes Swift visit to Hunter

On Sunday 17 March, Singleton received a special visit when Netball NSW brought its NetED program to the Hunter region.

NSW Swifts defender Sonia Mkoloma made the trip up the F3 to join participants in the day-long program, assisting NSW coaching identity Marian van Munster in presenting the course to over 35 participants.

NetEd is a program which provides an opportunity for members based in regional areas to further their skills and update their knowledge. The program is designed to meet the specific needs of the region, and effectively service the requirements of players, umpires and coaches.

There were two joint sessions presented in the workshop to encourage umpires and coaches to work together and help understand the application of rules.  Coaches were also educated on how to bring these interpretations to their players during training sessions.

After her first taste of NetED, Mkoloma said she looked forward to hopefully helping present the course again in the future.

“It was great to head out to Singleton and interact with everyone at the course, including meeting some of the local players,” Sonia said.

“It’s fantastic to see so many people involved in netball in our regional communities. NetED is a great program to help educate our regional members, and I especially enjoyed the joint sessions because as a player, having good communication with umpires is crucial for the game.”

The Hunter State League competition is also in full swing, with the Finals being played this weekend.  All six Divisions will be decided on Sunday 24 March, with Semi Finals at 9.00am following by Grand Finals at 11.20am.  The following teams will battle it out on court with the winner from each Semi Final to go through to the Grand Final to decide the 2013 Champion.
