New Year, New Goals for NSW 17/U Team

The New South Wales 17/U Team is gearing up for a huge Nationals campaign, with preparations at the Anne Clark Centre.

Whilst NSW will go into the tournament as reigning champions, after defeating Victoria in last year’s Grand Final by 10 goals, 38-28, returning Head Coach, Lenore Blades says she isn’t worrying about the prospect of consecutive titles.

“My aim is to prepare this team to be the best that they can be … a second 17/U title would be great but that’s not our main focus – new year, new team, new goals,” Blades said.

“We sat down together on Saturday and decided on our team goals – things such as improving our skills and becoming a solid team, as well as making good friends.”

“We are all jumping out of our skin; we are so excited to kick off our preparations, but also know that we can only do one step at a time.”

There are 10 new players in the team who will experience the National Netball Championships for the first time this year, with shooters Georgia Marshall and Lauren Yager the only returning 17/U players from last year’s National Champions team.

Blades says working with a new group of girls is all part of the excitement.

“We have six weeks until Nationals and will be training hard to prepare ourselves as best we can … I’m sure I can vouch for the rest of the team when I say that we are excited to get started!”
