NSW 17/U State Team secure Semi Final place

The NSW 17/U State Team have concluded their seven round matches of the 2016 National Netball Championship at Perth’s State Netball Centre today and will advance through to the 1 v 4 semi final tomorrow.

Semi Final 1 v 4; NSW v VIC, Friday 14 April @ 11.30am (Perth time)

The 17/U nationals tournament has seen quality netball, drawn nail-biting matches, upsets, comebacks, tough tussles, and passionate performances from all states and territories resulting in a tight race towards the finals days.

NSW 17/U Team Head Coach Jo Macdermid feels that her young side has really stepped up their performance in the finals few rounds of competition and are ready for what may lay ahead in finals.

Talking with Macdermid after the sides’ Round 7 clash of the campaign against Tasmania, she commented that the team is focussed and was really pleased with the way in which they played.

“I personally felt very proud of them and they (the players) did as well, representing our State well today – they did the uniform and the Waratah proud – they put together a true championship winning performance today,” said Macdermid.

Despite only having played together for a short period of time, Macdermid believes that the girls took a few quarters to gel well on court, but have put in some solid performances when needed.

“Overall I thought it (the 2016 campaign) was a real team effort – everyone played their positions like it was their own – it may have taken a few minutes to really gel on court – but today you could really see the difference.”

With four wins and three losses the 17/U side will now have the opportunity to take on ladder leaders, Victoria in the 1 v 4 Semi Final tomorrow at 11.30am (Perth Time).

On behalf of the netball community, we wish the NSW 17/U State Team every success and a wonderful day of competition.
