NSW 19/U advance to 2v3 Semi Final

The NSW 19/U State Team team have secured their spot in the 2016 19/U National Netball Championship semi-final at Perth’s State Netball Centre, after placing second in the main draw.

Semi Final; NSW v South Australia, Friday 15 April @ 4.45pm (Perth time)

The team touched down in Perth on Sunday and faced tough competition from the outset of the tournament – and with solid five wins, one loss and one draw across the seven rounds, the side has secured themselves second place on the ladder at the end of rounds and a place in the final series.

“The team are feeling really excited about the campaign and the great thing (about the week) is that the players have all contributed …it has been a great team effort,” said Head Coach of the 19/U side Moira Gaha.

“Across the court all areas have done a great job; our shooters have turned the post consistently and really backed themselves in putting up shots, our mid court has connected really well with them and delivered great ball, and defensively we have really strived for the ball and denied our opposition space.”

Gaha said her team had really grown throughout the competition, worked well together on the court during all seven games and produced some amazing play when things got tough.

“The campaign to date has given us great preparation.  We have contested plenty of games, and been placed in a number of different situations…against Western Australia we showed great tenacity to come from 10 goals behind to draw the match – which really showed us that we can dig deep and come up with the results,” the coach said.

With five wins, one draw and one loss in the tournament Gaha believes that the team will need to be at their best come finals, tomorrow afternoon.

“Moving into the finals we know that we need to refine our play, continue our timing with the delivery of the ball and use our basics well…we want to have the best basics (skills) on court and ensure that we make the most of all the ball we get,” said Gaha.

“We are really excited for the semi-final tomorrow against South Australia and they are very proud of all the work they have done to date.  We have built connections across the court, responded really well to feedback, and stuck to the game plan.”

On behalf of the netball community, we wish the NSW 19/U every success and a wonderful day of competition.
