NSW juniors named in Aussie FAST5

Four New South Wales juniors have been included in the Australian FAST5 Flyers, as announced by Netball Australia this morning.

NSW Swifts inaugural Premiership player Erin Bell will be joined by NSW colleagues Ashleigh Brazill, Gabi Simpson and Amorette Wild in the 10-player team to contest the FAST5 Netball World Series in Auckland at the end of the year.

Brazill and Simpson return to the team after finishing Runners-Up to New Zealand at last year’s tournament, while Wild was part of the Australian outfit to contest the inaugural FAST5 competition in 2012.

Australian FAST5 Flyers coach Jane Searle has added international experience to her team with the inclusion of sharp shooter Erin Bell for November’s FAST5 Netball World Series in Auckland.

The 27-year-old goal attack, who was an omission from Australia’s Commonwealth Games team, was named by Searle in the 10-player Flyers team alongside fellow Australian Diamonds squad members Karyn Bailey, Gabi Simpson and Clare McMeniman.

With 23 international Test appearances to her name, including a world championship title in 2011, Bell’s precision from around the circle will be a welcome addition to a Flyers team chasing its maiden FAST5 Netball World Series title.

“We’re thrilled to have Erin available for this year’s tournament, with her calibre and experience she’ll bring a great deal of leadership and composure to this young side in the high intensity environment of the FAST5 Netball World Series,” Searle said.

The Flyers have named six ANZ Championship Grand Finalists in the team with Melbourne Vixens premiership players Karyn Bailey, Kate Moloney and Jo Weston, along with Queensland Firebirds’ Clare McMeniman, Gabi Simpson and Amorette Wild to line up for Australia.

“We’ve picked a well-balanced side; a team that boasts a wealth of experience against the world’s best players in the ANZ Championship,” Searle said.

“We’re a team that has experienced finals pressures which will bode well for this year’s tournament, there are no second chances so we need to come out firing from the start and I believe we’re capable of going a step further this year.”

Three players, Ashleigh Brazill, Simpson and Weston, return to the FAST5 Flyers from last year’s silver medal finish, Australia’s best finish at the FAST5 Netball World Series to date.

“In addition to the experience of Erin, the FAST5 Netball World Series will provide our emerging athletes with the opportunity gain valuable international experience,” Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said.

The 2014 FAST5 Netball World Series will be held at Vector Arena, Auckland, from November 8-9.
