NSW ready to contest Marie Little OAM Shield

The Netball NSW Marie Little OAM Shield Team are into their final preparations as they get ready to contest the 2015 competition being held in Adelaide this weekend.

NSW will contest four round-robin matches over Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 July, before heading into the Finals Series to determine the 2015 Marie Little OAM Shield Winner.  The matches against Victoria and hosts South Australia will be played alongside Australian Netball League (ANL) Week 5 action at Adelaide’s Netball SA Stadium.

Ten athletes will represent the Waratah at this year’s competition – including four debutants – with Head Coach Jenny O’Keeffe back at the helm for the third consecutive season.  The team has been training over the last few weeks, with O’Keeffe commenting the side has been working hard in preparation for this weekend’s contest.

“It’s been a relatively short preparation period, but the players have worked extremely hard and hopefully they will be rewarded come the weekend,” O’Keeffe claimed.

“It’s on the radar to go one better this year [after finishing Runners-Up in 2014] but as long as everyone gets down there, has a good time, enjoys the experience and comes away feeling like they’ve done their best, then I think that will be a successful weekend.”

The 2015 side has six returning athletes from the past two seasons plus the four athletes who will be looking to make their Marie Little OAM Shield debuts against SA and VIC this weekend.

“Our debutants have done really well – there’s some exciting, raw talent there and it will be interesting to see how they all gel come competition time.  We’ve also got six returning athletes and I’m hoping they will be able to draw on their previous experience to help support our rookies,” O’Keeffe stated.

“This is my third year with them and there’s been a definite improvement over the years; even our 2015 Shadow Players who didn’t make the final team but have joined and helped us at training, they’ve really come a long way.

“This year we’ve also got a really nice positional balance in our playing roster, which gives us plenty of flexibility come competition time. Plus they’re such a lovely group of people, so we’re looking forward to coming together and having some fun – plus playing some good netball – in Adelaide,” O’Keeffe concluded.

Best of luck to our Netball NSW Marie Little OAM Shield team at this year’s tournament!
