Pratley caps milestone with win

NSW Swift Susan Pratley had double the reasons to celebrate the Australian Diamonds 22-goal victory over England in yesterday’s 2012 Holden Netball Quad Series fixture at TECT Arena in Tauranga, New Zealand.

Not only was the win the Aussies’ fifth consecutive for the series, it was also Susan’s 50thappearance in green and gold for Australia after making her debut six years ago.

“Yesterday’s game against England was a pretty special match for me personally,” Susan reflected.

“To be able to represent Australia in 50 test matches is something that I will cherish for life…I have so many great memories and friendships over the last 50 games and hopefully will make many more to come.”

2012 has been a big year for the country girl, who hails from the small town of Quaama, near Bega on the New South Wales south coast.  Susan took on a leadership role with the NSW Swifts for the first time as vice-captain, and led from the front with a stand-out ANZ Championship season.

Finishing with an impressive 349 goals at 86 per cent accuracy, Susan was recognised for her amazing 2012 season as the QBE NSW Swifts Most Valued Player and was also awarded an ANZ Championship MVP nomination.  Susan continued her outstanding form during Australian Diamonds selections, earning herself a recall into the national side after missing selection in 2011.

“It is great to be back in the Diamonds camp after a disappointing 2011…missing Australian selection for last year’s World Netball Championships was tough,” Susan said.

“Having the break I have been able to work hard on my fitness and strength and conditioning, which has helped me have a really good season this year.”

“After some time to reflect I set myself a goal for the start of this year, and that was to have fun with my netball again…it was really important for me to get back to enjoying playing, and I’ve had a really fun year.”

And it’s been fun to watch Susan in action as the Diamonds dominate the Quad Series.  Susan and her Diamonds teammates will travel to Hamilton today ahead of the final Quad Series double-header at Claudelands Arena on Thursday afternoon.

Congratulations Prats on notching up your 50thgame!
