Today marks one week until the world’s best netballers will take the court for the opening day of the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 – the pinnacle event of our favourite sport!
Sixteen teams will descend on Sydney Olympic Park for 10 days of fierce competition, all looking to claim the Gold Medal and title of World Champions. Some teams are already here, some are on their way, others will arrive in due course… but one thing is for certain; all have been deep in their preparations for what could be the very best World Cup yet.
The New Zealand Silver Ferns just wrapped a two-test warm-up series against South African Proteas on their home turf, whilst England made a clean-sweep of Wales and Scotland earlier this month. The Fiji Pearls claimed Gold at the recent 2015 Pacific Games held at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on their road to Sydney; Singapore also claimed Gold at the South-East Asia Games in June, whilst Jamaica and Barbados also contested a three-test series as part of their preparations.
Your Australian Diamonds also head into their final team camp today, Friday 31 July, when they head up the coast to Newcastle for a five-day camp, where they will conduct practice matches against the Australian 21/U Team (which includes 2016 Swifts rookie Kaitlyn Bryce).
NWC2015 secondary venue, Netball Central, is a hive of activity as tournament organisers also work hard to finalise their last preparations ahead of welcoming athletes, coaches, umpires, and netball fans from all across the globe!
