The 2013 World Youth Netball Championships begins tonight, Thursday 22 August, kicking off 10 days of competition between the best young netball talent from around the world at Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
Four years since they lifted the trophy in the Cook Islands, the Australian 21/U World Youth Cup team has been in the host city this past week to prepare for their title defence.
The Aussie’s campaign begins tomorrow night, Friday, when they meet Israel in their first match, before taking on Namibia, Pacific neighbours Fiji and South Africa through the round robin stage.
Netball fans who can’t make it to Scotland don’t have to miss out, with the tournament offering live streaming of every match through their official website!
Throughout this week netballnsw.com has brought you interviews with some of the Australian athletes, and today we feature NSW Swift young gun Paige Hadley.
After a long three year journey, Hadley will realise her dream when she steps out on court alongside 2014 NSW Swift Gretel Tippett and NSW 21/U teammates Kristina Brice, Kimberley Ravaillion and Gabi Simpson to represent her country at the tournament.
Netball Australia caught up with the 20 year old midcourter before the team departed for the tournament, with Hadley saying she was more than happy to pass on some of her ANZ Championship experience to her teammates.
“[It’s] just about helping each other out and the intensity you need to perform at to compete with the best … I guess the experience I know have [having played at ANZ Championship level] I can help out in that way,” Hadley said.
