Confederation of Australian Sport have proudly sponsored these awards helping to promote the importance and passion of community sport. The Confederation was established in 1976 to advance the interests of the Australian sports community and today aims to contribute to the development of community sport within our society.
The Clubbies Awards recognise the outstanding contributions made by clubs in their local communities and this year has seen no exception, with thousands of entries from various Clubs and Associations, sporting members and communities across Australia.
The awards have seen great success in the Australian Sporting landscape, with over a thousand nominations in five key categories; Best Club, Best Coach, Best Stalwart, Best Masters Performance, and – for the first time – Best Sporting Association.
Up against five other finalists, City of Sydney were presented the inaugural Best Sporting Association award for their holistic approach to the game, which includes not just playing our great game, but encourages players to learn about their fitness, health, being part of a team, leadership and dedication. The players are mixed together among the competing teams to encourage friendships between all athletes, rather than just being limited to a certain category or age group.
The Confederation of Australian Sport’s Rob Bradley said: “We are delighted to see the wonderful array of nominations for this year’s Clubbies awards. These are very worthy nominees that highlight the enormous contribution that Clubbies volunteers make in the 20,000 community sporting clubs throughout Australia. Congratulations to the 2017 Clubbies winners.”
