Beginner’s guide to coaching netball

No matter what level of the game you are at, coaching netball can be one of the most rewarding challenges to take on.

From grassroots to the elite level, New South Wales is blessed to have many fine coaches who help grow the game and take netball to new heights every year.

This year’s ANZ Championship Grand Final between the NSW Swifts and Queensland Firebirds captured Australia’s imagination and showcased just how far netball has come. But great events such as that couldn’t happen without coaches in urban and regional areas introducing young people to our great game and helping them make friendships for life in the process.

And now is a wonderful time to get involved and become an accredited coach. Netball Australia’s Online Foundation Coach Accreditation Course is targeted primarily at beginner coaches, teachers, parents and NetSetGO coaches and outlines introductory coaching information and basic netball techniques.

The course is the first step in the national coaching accreditation framework and is an important step along the knowledge pathway. Below is a brief outline of what you need to know and a video message from Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander about the Course.

The course contains the following four modules: (1) The Role of the Coach (2) Panning (3) Teaching Netball Skills and (4) The Coach in Action.
