Netball NSW hosted some special guests over the weekend, with the 2013 Netball Australia High Performance Coaching Course being held at the Anne Clark Centre over four days.
High Performance Coach Carol Byers facilitated the course, assisted by High Performance coaches Marg Angove, Sue Hawkins and Jill McIntosh who presented to six participants from around Australia.
The course participants covered a range of topics such as technical and tactical skills, skill acquisition and media training, as well as touching on game analysis, and strategies and coaching practices.
Speaking to Netball NSW on Friday, Byers, Netball Australia’s Coach & Athlete Development Manager, said this was the beginning of the journey for the participants.
“This weekend will be the first step in a two-year learning period for these coaches,” Byers said.
“Each participant will be assigned a mentor in their state to be able to complete the modules and assignments necessary, and I will also be checking in on them from time to time.”
NSW 21/U, 19/U and 17/U team athletes assisted in the presentation of the course, with the coaches utilizing the netballers in practical sessions.
“The NSW athletes have been really terrific with assisting us in the High Performance course; they have been patient and eager to learn from some of the best coaching talent from around the country,” Byers commented.
The six participants have now returned to their states to continue their High Performance Pathway, which will include a number of written assignments and practical assessments throughout the two-year period.
