The Oceania Cup returns in 2016 with Netball NSW looking forward to the fifth edition of the tournament which will this year be hosted by the Fairfield City District Netball Association.
The fun, easy-going competition – which doubles as a carnival with the emphasis on having a good time with friends and enjoying netball, all with a distinct Polynesian flavour – takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, 5-6 October.
Netball NSW is encouraging people of all abilities (be they friends, colleagues, and club or Association teammates!) to come together and form teams to take part.
Last year, at the Parramatta Auburn Netball Association, 24 teams took part with the ‘FOBShots’, ‘Blended’, ‘Afatasi Styles’ and ‘Just Do It’ teams winning their respective Divisions.
This year the 13U, 15U and 15U Divisions all return, but parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles will also be able to take part with the introduction of two new Divisions; Opens and Opens Mixed*.
“With netball continuing to grow at a national level we are delighted to be introducing these two new Divisions and get even more people into our wonderful sport,” Nikki Horton, General Manger Sport Development at Netball NSW, said.
“The past four Oceania Cups have been wonderful successes and we can’t wait for this year’s event at Fairfield City Netball Association.
“Netball, at the end of the day, is about coming together in the community and celebrating all the different cultures and backgrounds that make our sport so popular.”
