A huge congratulations to the Division 5 and 6 Grand Final winners of DOOLEYS Metro League, who are likely still celebrating since their victories last night at Genea Netball Centre.
The first game of the night was between Inner Western Suburbs (who finished second) and Baulkham Hills Shire (third overall) in Division 6.
It was a tight game from the very beginning, with Baulkham Hills pulling ahead by one goal at quarter time. The next two quarters had Inner West on top, outscoring Baulkham Hills and going into the fourth quarter with a five-goal lead, 41-36.
Baulkham Hills fought to the death and dominated the final minutes of the game, finishing with a thrilling 54-52 victory.
For the Division 5 Grand Final, Minor Premiers Liverpool City had the advantage over fourth-placed Parramatta Auburn, having gone undefeated the entire season, but the final result certainly didn’t go their way.
Parramatta Auburn had something to prove, and this probably explains why they flew out of the gates, winning the first and second quarter by a couple of goals. Going into the fourth quarter, the score was dead even at 40-all, shaping up for a nailbiting 15 minutes. In the end it was the underdogs Parramatta Auburn who dominated, finishing the game with a huge 8-goal win, 58-50.
The last two Grand Finals on Thursday September 20 will see Randwick and Northern Suburbs face off in Division 1, and Inner Western Suburbs take on Manly-Warringah in Division 2.
