Super Club Round 1 Preview

The inaugural Super Club competition organised by Netball New Zealand will begin tomorrow, Sunday 2 July in Nelson, New Zealand.

The competition will run for six days with the top three New Zealand teams from the ANZ Premiership (Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel, Te Wananga o Raukawa Pulse and SKYCITY Mystics), as well as Gauteng Jaguars (RSA), NSWIS (AUS), Marama Vou (FIJ), University of Trinidad & Tobago and the Celtic Flames (WAL).

The teams have been arranged into two pools of four and will play each team in their pool once. The pools will then be ranked and teams will compete to determine their ladder position for the finals on Friday 7 July.

NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) is in Pool A, which consists of Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel (NZL), Gauteng Jaguars (RSA) and University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT).

NSWIS’s first game of the tournament is against the University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT) on Sunday 2 July at 3.50pm NZST (1.50pm AEST).

UTT is well known for their energetic court work, as Captain Maddy Proud says, it’s hard to combat their enthusiasm for the win.

“The Trinidad girls always have that bit of Caribbean flair,” Proud said.

“I think they’re going to be an exciting team, they’re always going to be hard to beat when they have so much excitement and play with so much freedom”.
