NSW athletes selected for 2019 Marie Little OAM Shield

Netball NSW is pleased to announce the 2019 Marie Little OAM Shield Team who will represent New South Wales at the national tournament being hosted in Brisbane, QLD in october this year.

Head Coach Therri Ellison has selected a squad of 19 athletes, which includes 10 players in the team and a further nine Training Partners who will participate in NSW’s campaign leading up to the competition being played 12th to 14th October.

The Netball NSW Marie Little OAM Shield Team will be gunning for an unprecedented fifth straight title in 2019. There are six players returning from last year’s gold medal success, including Dallas Austin, Melissa Gallagher, Kristin Mercer, Bernadette Mills, Nalyn Sirivivatnanon, and Casey Stevens. The other four players are new to the Marie Little OAM Team, including Jessica Daher, who has been elevated from previous campaigns as a training partner into the 2019 team.

Head Coach Therri Ellison was delighted by the return of the successful Marie Little campaigners “We have a strong base to work from with the skillset developed over the last few seasons. Our Marie Little veterans are all over the court, from defense to midcourt to shooting, which will be great for some of the athletes new to the team.”

Ellison was especially pleased to announce the captaincy for 2019, “Melissa Gallagher has been a stalwart of the NSW Marie Little team over many years, and it’s a delight to announce her as captain again. She will be well supported by Dallas Austin as Vice Captain.”

Talking on the pressure of entering for the first time as Marie Little OAM Shield Head Coach, Ellison said, “I’m excited to have the opportunity to be Head Coach of the NSW Marie Little team. As Assistant Coach under Jenny O’Keeffe for the past several years, I have created a great relationship with all our girls and hope to emulate our previous success.”

Named after disability netball pioneer Marie Little OAM, the shield is the national netball championships for women with an intellectual disability.

Congratulations to all the athletes named in the 2019 Netball NSW Marie Little OAM Shield Team, and good luck!
