The Netball NSW State Championships – Masters got underway at Netball Central, this morning Saturday 21 May.
Over 200 participants from 15 teams, representing 12 Associations, are taking to the courts in what promises to be a fantastic weekend of netball action. Teams will be competing in two categories – Over 35s and Over 40s.
Netball Central, the home of Netball NSW, is delighted to be hosting the competition for the first time.
”It’s really exciting this year because we’ve revamped the format,” Wendy Archer, President of Netball NSW, says.
”Bringing it inside to Netball Central I think is fabulous, and I think the athletes will be really enjoying playing on the boards, they don’t have to worry about the weather and already this morning we have seen some really, really good netball.”
With a carnival atmosphere around the courts, Archer is looking forward to a wonderful championship.
”I think the numbers are really pleasing and we hope to build on them again and I have no doubts that we can build this tournament into another iconic event for Netball NSW, along the lines of State and State Age.
”We are really pleased the Associations have taken this opportunity to bring their teams in … these events don’t just happen, it’s the coming together of the Associations, our own professional staff and of course our own partnership with ProBUILD has helped to make this happen, so we are really happy.”
