Importance of Suncorp NetSetGO Modified Equipment

Suncorp NetSetGO is Australia’s official starter program for girls and boys aged 5 to 10. It’s a chance to learn the netball basics, get outside and make some friends. For a lot of kids, this is the first time they’ll pick up a netball or chuck on a bib. It’s a learning experience. And a lot of fun.

As we get closer to the start of the 2019 netball season it is a great time make sure everyone involved in NetSetGO at your centre is up-to-date on the modified rules. As well as the best way to implement these to benefit your NetSetGO participants in their Netball Journey. This will ensure participants have fun and experience success.

Important things to remember:

  • The modified rules should be used by umpires as they umpire the game and allow for participants to learn and refine skills while experiencing success.
  • Participants should be taught the proper rules of Netball from the beginning of their netball journey (with the exception of rules like 3 feet where there is a noted difference for participants in NetSetGO).
  • Teaching the rules this way means less confusion for participants, they always learn 3 second but umpires can allow them up to 4 or 5 seconds during a game to allow for skill development and understanding of the rules.
  • In the second stage of the GO tier it is important that across the season the rules are gradually tightened up in preparation for Junior Netball.
  • The modified ball and hoop (if available) are important modifications that assist in skills development and allow children to have fun and experience success while learning netball.

The Suncorp NetSetGO ball is a size 4 to suit younger children and their abilities, as the children get older the size of the ball increases to a size 5 ball when they are 10 years old and over.

Suncorp NetSetGO uses modified goal posts which allow participants the ability to learn to shoot and achieve success in their sessions.
•  Ages 5 – 10 years: 2.4 metres (8 feet) high.
•  Ages 10+ years: 3.05 metres (10 feet) high.

Netball is all about fun, friendship and being active, from our youngest NetSetGO participants to our elite netballers teamwork is key to getting the most out of the sessions.
