Games times announced for 2014 Season

Game times for the NSW Swifts 2014 regular season have today been announced by the ANZ Championship.

On making the announcement, the ANZ Championship confirmed all 65 regular season matches will be broadcast live on FOX SPORTS in Australia and SKY Sport in New Zealand throughout the 17-week season including the ANZ Championship Finals Series which concludes at the end of June.  Additionally in Australia one match per week will be simulcast live from 12.00pm (AEDST) each Sunday on free-to-air television via SBS 2.

The NSW Swifts returned for pre-season training on Monday 2 December under new Head Coach Rob Wright.  In addition to a new look coaching team, there are six (6) fresh faces in the playing roster for season 2014, including current Australian Diamonds Caitlin Thwaites and Sharni Layton, and Australian 21/U goal shooter Gretel Tippett.

“There is a great sense of anticipation and excitement throughout the entire Club and playing group ahead of the new season,” said Rob Wright, who takes the reins after four seasons as the Club’s Assistant Coach.

“During the off-season, seven of the 2014 roster represented Australia in either the Diamonds or Fast5 Flyers, giving NSW Swifts supporters a taste of what to expect from their team in 2014.”

“The ANZ Championship is without doubt the best netball competition in the world and we will be using the next three months to prepare for what will be the most hotly contested season in the competition’s history,” concluded Wright.

The 2014 ANZ Championship season starts three weeks earlier than usual next year in consideration of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games which commence in July.

Each of the ten teams will enjoy a bye round and at least six home matches within the 14-week regular season.
ANZ Championship General Manager Andy Crook says preparations for the 2014 ANZ Championship are in full swing.

“It’s an exciting time of the year for the teams as new and returning players come together for the first time as they  embark on their first steps towards season seven of the ANZ Championship,” Crook said.

“With the lure of Commonwealth Games selection providing an added motivation heading into the 2014 ANZ Championship season, I believe the standard of competition on court is set to benefit from fitter, faster and stronger athletes.”
