The NSW Swifts next home game on Sunday 18 May promises to be the BIGGEST of the season, as they take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds in an Allphones Arena BLOCKBUSTER.
In the corresponding game last season, 8,021 passionate NSW Swifts’ Members and fans filled Allphones Arena to help set a new Club regular season home crowd attendance record.
The current ANZ Championship record for a regular season crowd is 8,509, held by the Melbourne Vixens, and the NSW Swifts would love to eclipse this mark at the venue which will host next year’s Netball World Cup Final.
Earlier this season, the Swifts and Thunderbirds played out an epic encounter at Adelaide’s Netball SA Stadium, with the home side defeating an injury-ravaged Swifts by a solitary goal, 50-49.
On Sunday 18 May at 2:18pm (activities from 12noon), the NSW Swifts will be aiming to exact revenge and continue their charge for a Top 4 finish in this year’s ANZ Championship.
Someone who was in the thick of the action during that titanic Round 3 clash against the Thunderbirds earlier this season was Swifts’ midcourter Abbey McCulloch.
“That was the most intense game I’ve played in,” Abbey said.
“To be playing the reigning Champions on their home court with both Paige and Sharni sidelined was a massive challenge. But add to that the loss of both Brooke and Taylah early in the game, meant we had to dig even deeper.
“This playing group fights for each other and our amazing supporters, and I think the effort and tenacity we demonstrated during that one-goal loss gained us plenty of admirers.
“But it’s the disappointment we all felt after that loss which I’ll be holding on to as we face them on our own turf at Allphones Arena.
“I’ve heard how amazing it is to play at Allphones Arena in front of 8000 plus supporters, and I can’t wait to take the court, hopefully in front of a record-breaking crowd,” concluded Abbey.
A festival of Netball
In addition to the action on the court, there will be loads happening off it.
From 12noon, activities will take place around the Allphones Arena concourse and main foyer, with a special thanks to the Club’s wonderful Partners, Suppliers and Netball family and friends for bringing the fun!
Standby for details regarding these activities next week!
