The NSW Swifts are through to their first ANZ Championship Grand Final since 2008, after defeating Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic 60-52 in the second Semi Final at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton NZ, yesterday, Sunday 14 June. Read the full match report here.
Head Coach Rob Wright was full of praise for his charges following their hard-fought, eight-goal victory yesterday, saying featuring in the Grand Final was just reward for the dedication displayed throughout the 2015 season.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to have made the Grand Final,” Rob Wright said yesterday.“Probably seven weeks ago we would have thought we could do it (make the Grand Final), but it’s only just sinking it now that we have made it.”
“I’m super impressed with and for the girls, they have worked incredibly hard and sometimes those rewards take a little time to come off, but we got our reward tonight,” Wright concluded.
Yesterday’s win will now see the Swifts return to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre to take on the Queensland Firebirds in the title decider next Sunday 21 June, just two weeks after their northern rivals took honours in the Australian Conference Final. Read the full match report here.
Captain Kimberlee Green – who had a brief stint on court during the last quarter against WBOP Magic – said while the Swifts are excited to have a crack at the 2015 Champions title, they know there’s a lot of hard work ahead this week… and they’re ready for it!
“Obviously we are really excited [to make the Grand Final] but that’s not where it stops. We know we have a really big game up in Brisbane and the Firebirds have been the pinnacle of Australian netball all year… but we’ll be looking forward to a good week of preparation at home before heading to Brisbane for what will be a great game,” Green said.
