The NSW Swifts’ 2014 season is over after losing to Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic by the narrowest of margins, 50-49, in their sudden-death Minor Semi Final at Allphones Arena on Sunday 8 June.
An amazing spectacle in front of 5,610 supporters, the do-or-die match was everything finals netball should be.
Swifts’ Head Coach Rob Wright was naturally disappointed to lose, but was pleased with what the team put out on court and will take the fourth-place finish as a building block for next season.
“I’m just so proud of the girls. It’s a tough way to lose a game when you lose by one, especially in a Semi,” Wright said.
“But it’s been an exciting year, it’s been a bit of a roller coaster with lots of ups and downs … and today is an up. Back here [at Allphones Arena], playing in front of an amazing crowd – I loved the atmosphere today. Not quite the result we wanted but that’s the beauty of sport; one team only is going to win and unfortunately today it wasn’t us.
