Who Needs an Ice Bath?

Three NSW Swifts have traded white sandy beaches for white snow-covered villages while on tour with the Australian Diamonds in England.

Defenders Mo’onia Gerrard and April Letton with shooter Susan Pratley, woke up on Friday morning to a massive blanket of snow covering the town of Bath; meanwhile their NSW Swifts teammates battle pre-season training in red hot temperatures back home in Sydney.

The Diamonds were able to enjoy the rare sight of fresh snow – making snowballs and snow angels, while sharing plenty of photos via social media showing the players rugged up in layers of clothes.

However it wasn’t all fun in the freezing temperatures, with the snow hindering travel to the Diamonds practice match against Northern Ireland.  One of the team buses couldn’t make the final leg of the journey up the hill, with head coach Lisa Alexander left with the bare minimum seven players to take the court at the start of the match.

The Diamonds are currently on a three-match tour of England, with the home side leading the series 1-nil after defeating the Aussies, 58-53, in the opening match at Bath early Monday morning (AEDT).  The teams will travel to London to contest the second match at Wembley Stadium on Thursday morning (AEDT) before the final match being played in Birmingham on Monday morning.
