Fun in the sun at 2018 Oceania Cup

It may have been a scorcher of a day but there were smiling faces all around at the 2018 Oceania Netball Cup on Saturday 17th March. Liverpool City Netball Association again played host to the wonderful day of fun, music, culture and, of course, netball.

It was a day to celebrate the Polynesian, Indigenous and Pacific communities through our love of netball. There were plenty of fun activities for the 190 participants and their spectators, like a Hula Dancing Fitness Group Warm Up with Tonga Howard, plenty of food stalls, face painting, skills clinics and a jumping castle. Plus, there was a Matavai Cultural Arts performance and DJ Toppz providing awesome tunes.

GIANTS Netball star Kristiana Manu’a was once again in attendance as Oceania Netball Cup Ambassador, and she was impressed with the level of talent some of the players showed.

“It was really great to see everyone out there playing, everyone had a good time, the music was flowing and the food trucks were there,” she said. “There were some tight games and I was lucky enough to watch.”

“Seeing the diversity of the different cultures, all the food stands and just enjoying netball and each other’s company was great.

“I really enjoyed the crowd and the turnout we got this year. I’m really excited to see how it’s going to build for next year,” she continued.

Netball NSW would like to congratulate Aute, who won the 12/U title for the second consecutive year. The organisation would also like to congratulate the 15/U winners Wagtails for their one-point upset on last year’s winners, and Infusion who took out the Ladies competition once again.
