The Oceania Netball Cup proved to be another hit in 2017 with Liverpool City Netball Association playing host to a wonderful day of fun, music, good vibes and – of course – some great netball too on Saturday, 25 February.
Over four and a half hours of netball – 272 minutes to be precise – were played as 22 teams took to the courts to contest 86 games in Netball NSW’s annual Pacific Community Festival of our game.
This year saw the addition of more fun elements with participants, team staff and supporters enjoying activities such as Zumba, Photobooth, Jumping Castles and Kids Skills Sessions, all supported by some great tunes provided by the competition DJ.
A total of 1,528 goals were scored which no doubt impressed GIANTS Netball and Australian Diamonds star Kristiana Manu’a who was delighted to attend the event in her role as Oceania Netball Cup Ambassador for 2017.
Netball NSW would like to congratulate Aute, who won the 12/U title. The organisation would also like to congratulate the 15/U winners Aute Polly Breeze, 18/U winners Dolphins and Infusion who took out the Ladies competition.
“We love the Oceania Cup and it is one of the most fun events we have on our calendar,” Nikki Horton, General Manager – Sport Development at Netball NSW, said.
“It is not as formal as other competitions that we run but the key message of getting out and enjoying netball shines through.
“It has been amazing to see so many young people getting their best Pacific outfits on and having fun on court and also having a dance to the music on offer too.
“We encouraged participants to be as creative with their uniforms as they could beforehand and it was great to see the wonderful, vibrant colours on display in Liverpool.”
