Seven former and current New South Wales athletes have been selected to attend Specialist Camps at the newly created Netball Centre of Excellence at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
Kristiana Man’ua (Defence Camp), Kristina Brice (Shooting Camp), Prudence Ellis and Mikayla Upton (Tall Defenders Camp), Verity Simmons (C/WA Specialist Camp), plus Maddie Hay and Gabi Simpson (C/WD Specialist Camp) will each attend a five-day Specialist Camp to be held during the month of September.
Another former NSW Junior, Ashleigh Brazill, is one of eleven elite emerging athletes from throughout Australia to be named in the inaugural Netball Centre of Excellence Program intake. These athletes will take up residence at the AIS for a full-time intensive individualised daily program, following the conclusion of their respective team’s Australian Netball League (ANL) season, and will remain in Camp until they depart for an international tour of Johannesburg (South Africa) in October.
While Brazill, Simmons and Simpson are established players in the ANZ Championship, the selection of emerging NSW talent reflects the work being undertaken by NSW coaches at the Regional Academy, State League and State levels.
“Over the past 18 months a lot of time and resources have gone into reviewing and implementing a new Netball NSW High Performance Plan which will underpin our vision of developing the best netballing talent possible to deliver sustained success for both NSW and National Teams,” said Netball NSW General Manager High Performance, Tracey Fear.
“Netball NSW is twelve months into this four-year High Performance Plan and we are delighted to see the results of the collaboration between High Performance personnel and coaches with athletes in our entry level High Performance Program being nationally identified. I’m sure each player will benefit further for their involvement in these Centre of Excellence Specialist Camps.”
These Specialist Camps will see former Australian Players and High Performance coaches Jane Searle (Defence), Sue Hawkins (Shooting), Jill McIntosh (Midcourt C/WA), Nicole Richardson (Midcourt C/WD) and Cathy Fellows (Tall Defenders) provide individualised specialist coaching.
