It was while out spreading their love of netball throughout regional NSW that two Netball NSW employees noticed something was missing from many of the participants who were turning up to try netball for the first time.
West/Central West Regional Coordinators Mardi Aplin and Emily Ross spend countless hours on the road, taking netball to the far corners of their Netball NSW Region. While out setting up new competitions for community members to get involved with, they noticed many first timers to netball didn’t have the appropriate footwear to participate properly.
This prompted Aplin and Ross to start up a call to arms throughout the West/Central West community, asking people to donate any old runners for those less fortunate that want to play netball in the towns of Brewarrina, Lightning Ridge, Goodooga, Collarenebri and Walgett.
Donations are being requested for shoes that will fit children and teenagers from 5 to 16 years old, male or female, and in relatively good condition. Those interested in helping out can donate their clean old or no-longer-fitting runners at two locations – Orange and Dubbo (details below).
Aplin and Ross will then hand-deliver the shoes when they take netball back on the road, so more children and young adults can have fun playing netball while leading an active, healthy lifestyle.
Donations are being taken from now with the first delivery at the end of February; however donations will be accepted throughout the year, so don’t throw those old shoes away after netball season!
For more information on the West/Central West Shoe Drive please contact Mardi Aplin (Orange) and/or Emily Ross (Dubbo).
