Two regional competitions will come to a close this weekend when Northern Inland and West/Central West decide their 2014 GrainCorp Regional state League Champions.
The GrainCorp Regional State League – Northern Inland competition will be held at Tamworth Sports Dome this Sunday 31 August, with the top four of both divisions contesting for the title of Regional Champions.
The final preliminary rounds were played last Sunday 24 August at Armidale Netball Association, with Tamworth and Group 14 finishing atop the Division One and Division Two ladders.
As well as some exciting results throughout the day, Netball NSW Hall of Fame member Marg Corbett OAM and Netball NSW Waratah Award recipient Kate Thornborough were on hand to provide real-time mentoring to the coaches and umpires.
In umpiring news, three local Northern Inland umpires were awarded National Umpire Badges upon their performances during State League. Congratulations to Narrabri’s Grace Tomlinson and Armidale’s Sophie Hansen for receiving their National C Badges, as well as Sophie Sozou from Armidale for being awarded her National B Badge!
After finishing top, Tamworth won the right to host Finals and will meet second-placed Moree & District in the Semi Finals, with the winner progressing directly to the Grand Final. The other team has a second chance to win a spot in the decider when they meet the winner between Armidale (3rd) and Narrabri (4th) in the Preliminary Final.
Whoever is crowned the 2014 Champion will also be invited to participate in the Inter-Regional State League Final at the Anne Clark Centre on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September, coming up against other Regional Division One Winners to decide the 2014 Regional State League Champion.
In Division Two, Group 14 and Tamworth will take the court after finishing first and second, respectively, at the end of the regular rounds. In a mirror of Division One, the winner will advance directly to the Grand Final while the other will meet the winner between third-placed Narrabri and fourth-placed Moree & District in the Preliminary Final.
The action begins at 9am, with the Division One decider at 1:45pm following the Division Two Grand Final at 1:15pm.
GrainCorp Regional State League – West/Central West will also conclude this weekend when Orange Netball Association hosts the Finals.
Defending Champions Orange 1 finished atop the Division One ladder, holding out Dubbo in second place by goal differential. The two sides will meet in the Semi Final, with the winner claiming the first Grand Final spot.
The other side will meet the winner between Orange 2 and Bathurst, who will play off in the other Semi Final, while Forbes and Lithgow will go head-to-head to determine fifth place.
In Division Two – the newly established 17 & Under Division for 2014 – Bathurst and Cowra take the court in the first Semi Final, while a hometown, mate v mate battle between Orange Black and Orange White will play out the second Semi Final.
Unlike Division One, the winners of each Division Two Semi Final will advance to the Grand Final, meaning Orange will have a home side in the title decider regardless of the Semi Final results.
Netball NSW would like to wish all participating teams all the best for this weekend’s GrainCorp Regional State League Finals!
